The Wonderful Wisdom of Marriage

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
black-marriages-895.jpgRightly understood, marriage is all about permanence. In a world of transitory experiences, events, and commitments, marriage is intransigent. It simply is what it is - a permanent commitment made by a man and a woman who commit themselves to live faithfully unto one another until the parting of death.

"So ... you, like, pray and stuff?" Um, yes. I pray and stuff. As an ordained Baptist minister, it kind of, like, goes with the territory.

The arrest and jailing in Haiti of 10 Southern Baptists on charges of kidnapping and criminal association is appropriate and consistent with gospel values.

6a00d83451b46269e20128773b5683970c-800wi.jpgThe football star's appearance in an upcoming 'pro-life' Super Bowl ad seems to remove any ambiguity about whether controversy will dampen his very public faith.

Where Was God in the Haitian Earthquake?

I write with heavy heart, my mind assaulted by the images of devastation wrought by the cataclysmic earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday.
rick-warren-p-2010.jpgOne of the most misunderstood Beatitudes of Jesus may be one of the most important for you to master in 2010: "Happy are the meek, for they will inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5).

Your Brain Without Dad

Do children need fathers? Fascinating research on that question is reported by Shirley S. Wang of The Wall Street Journal. Anna Katherina Braun, a German biologist, has been working with colleagues to understand the biological impact of single parenting. Her research has focused on the degu, a small rodent that is a distant relation to the guinea pig.

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before" (Philippians 3:13).

I am thankful to God for giving us time-markers. I believe that in His grace and mercy, He has done so to give us feeble and frail human beings the joy and privilege of starting over. I do not know about others, but I get excited about a new year.
danielwhyteiiipic.jpgAnyone who knows me knows that once I see a movie one time, I have no desire to see it again. However, earlier this week, I watched "The Nativity Story" movie with my family. I had seen this movie once before, but I decided to watch it again.

Where Does the Story of Christmas Begin?

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
bethleham-star.jpgAs the celebration of Christmas fast approaches, our attention quickly goes to the familiar words of the infancy narratives found in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. This is a healthy reflex.

A particularly good reminder during the holidays when so many of us are driven to duplicate what our image of the perfect Christmas is supposed to be.
harry-jackson-op2.jpgLast Friday, two historic events occurred. A signing ceremony for DC's same-sex marriage law and a blizzard that blanketed the Northeast and left everyone in the capital physically isolated except for the almost-too-frequent weather updates on TV and Radio. Ironically, the two events bore a strange similarity.
mark-sanford-tiger.jpgI was raised in a Democrat household in a Democrat town in a Democrat state. I am an active member of the Republican Party today for one reason...Ronald Wilson Reagan. Between the time Reagan served as Governor of California and his run for the Republican nomination for president, he produced a series of nationally syndicated radio programs that clearly laid out his vision for America.
tiger-woods-saga.jpgThe travail of Tiger Woods entered a new chapter over the weekend as Accenture, a global consulting firm, severed all ties with the world's most famous golfer. It is not likely to be the last.
rick-warren-fa.jpgLike the saying goes, the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence; the grass is greener where you water it. We must make sure our marriage is growing and developing, or we'll be susceptible to moral failure. If you want a happy marriage, you're going to have to work at it.
woods-golf-affirm.jpgThere are many today who insist the Bible is irrelevant to modern life. While atheists dismiss the Good Book altogether, many liberals maintain it is nothing more than an error-riddled collection of ancient stories with a few wise sayings and suggestions for living.
frank-schaeffer.jpgPlease come up with a new name for whatever you are. Drop the word "Christ" out of your name. You've destroyed my reputation.
tebow-sec-a.jpgLike many others, I am a big fan of Tim Tebow, and I am thankful for his bold stand for the Lord. He is a good role model for all young men to follow in many ways.
harry-jackson-op2.jpgThis past weekend millions ate turkey, traveled hundreds of miles to spend time with their families, and showed up at major retailers as early as 5:00 AM. As Americans did these things men of the cloth, sociologists, and demographers wondered what was on the mind of the average American.

The Blur of Gender, by Albert Mohler

robertmohler38592.jpgIs The New York Times trying to tell us something? Just eleven days after running a story on gender-bending teenagers on the front page of its "Style" section, the paper is back with yet another front page story in the same section, this time on gender-bending young adults. The articles even cite the same psychologist as authority. What's going on here?

True Thanksgiving, by Chuck Colson

chuck-colson.ssmrl.jpgThis Thanksgiving Day recalls another Thanksgiving many years ago-the happy hours I spent with my children and grandchildren. Over turkey and dressing, I decided to quiz my then 8-year-old grandson, as proud grandparents often do.
Graham-bio-1.jpg
How do we give thanks after something like the tragedy at Fort Hood, not to mention our individual tragedies like cancer and divorce?
aimee-herd.jpgI confess that one of my favorite holiday movies to watch--an annual tradition for me and my husband--is White Christmas. I love the cast, and the songs of course. But the scene I'll put down the present wrapping to watch is when Bing Crosby's character begins singing Count Your Blessings.
harry-jackson-op2.jpgLast Friday I was privileged to stand with Chuck Colson, Jim Daly, Robert George, Archbishop Wuerl, Tony Perkins, Alan Sears, Cardinal Rigali, and over 20 others to represent the first 150 signers of a document called The Manhattan Declaration.
teresa-neumann.jpgDissing the Church seems to be chic these days. Although, granted, it isn't perfect, I submit there are no other establishments peopled by humans that are superior to the Church.
